The installation features two large square-shaped digital displays, each measuring 2.5m wide × 2.5m high × 0.5m deep, displaying images composed of collections of text. One side faces the exhibition hall, while the other faces a window, allowing the work to be viewed from the street outside the venue. From a distance, the images displayed on the signage resemble a giant urban electronic billboard, but up close, they reveal themselves to be a tapestry of multiple small stories—a web of text. Utilizing the phenomenon where the meaning of the work changes depending on whether it is viewed from afar or up close, I designed the exterior as video and the interior as fragments of poetry, using this to represent my own outer and inner selves.

In fact, I’ve often been told by acquaintances, “You didn’t look like the type to write poetry,” or “So you write poetry, huh?” I’ve translated that dynamic into this work. Poetry is hidden everywhere, and anyone can discover it. I conceived this piece out of a desire for viewers to experience the process through which I’ve discovered poetry. I designed it to mimic an ordinary electronic billboard in the city, creating a work that allows anyone to encounter that experience by chance.

For this project, I used AI to create individual videos based on my poems. I also display footage of an AI avatar—trained on my poetic style—continuously generating poetry in real time. Just as both video and text emerge from a single source of language, the work is designed so that they exist independently, expanding something akin to a poetic self.

The title 〈texture〉 carries dual meanings: like the word “text,” which evolved from the Latin “texere,” it implies weaving words together to craft a story, much like a fabric; it also suggests savoring the visual textures created by perspective.

実際、私は知人から「詩を書くような人には見えなかった」「詩とか書くんだね」とよく言われる経験がありますが、そのような構造を作品化しました。 どこにでも詩は隠れているし、誰にでも詩は見つけられる。私が詩を見つけてきたプロセスを鑑賞者に体験して欲しいという思いから、この作品を考えました。 何気ない街中の電光掲示板の一つにこの作品が擬態して、そのような体験を無作為に誰かに遭遇させるような作品にしました。

今回、AIを用いて詩からそれぞれの映像を作りました。また、私の詩性を学習させた分身のAIにリアルタイムで詩を自動生成させ続けさせたものを映しています。私の一つの言語から映像とテキストの両方が、詩という自我のようなものを拡張していくように、独立してそれが存在するような作品になっています。

〈texture〉というタイトルにはラテン語の「texere」から発展した「text」のように、織物のような言葉を紡いてストーリーを編むような意味、また遠近による視覚的な質感を味わうような意味があります。
